The Fake Art Book Fair: Zines for Change
3–4 October 2026|Creative Space, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Taipei
The first edition of The Fake Art Book Fair brings together independent publishers and zine makers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Tracing zine histories across Asia, we found that zine ecologies are inseparable from local social change, political conditions and subcultural movements. Zine is a concept that originated in the West; our borrowing of it here is an attempt to fill it with readings from East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Asian diaspora — to recognise both our connections to and divergences from that Western lineage, and the differences among ourselves in how we have transformed and used this medium.
Alongside the fair: a Japanese zine exhibition curated by HandSawPress (approx. 83 titles), a survey of Taiwanese zines from the 1990s to the 2010s in collaboration with scholar Jian Miao-Ju, a special section on War and the Everyday featuring Iranian and Ukrainian zines and independent comics, an open call public table, and a programme of talks.
