Before the digital age, movable type printing was once the soul of Taiwan’s publishing industry.
Train tickets, timetables, newspapers, and public notices were all manually composed—one letter at a time—by master printers.
Today, this craftsmanship has almost vanished from daily life.
Step into Taipei’s old town and rediscover the beauty of letterpress printing!
Learn from a national treasure-level master craftsman, experience traditional typesetting and hand-cranked printing, and create your own fortune amulet and vintage train ticket to preserve your wishes and memories of Taiwan’s railway heritage.

A-1｜Fortune Amulet Letterpress Printing
- Demonstration by Master Lin Tu-Kuei of Dongxin Letterpress Printing Studio — learn traditional typesetting and hand-cranked printing.
- Design by VM Create Studio: transform metal movable type into “fortune text,” and feel the tactile beauty of embossed prints.
A-2｜Vintage Train Ticket DIY
- Recreate Taiwan’s classic paper train tickets and preserve railway memories.
- Print your own letterpress train ticket charm, carrying warmth and good wishes from the golden age of travel.
💡 After the workshop, bring your amulet to Taipei’s historic Xia-Hai City God Temple in Dihua Street to pray for good fortune and love!

The tour combines the Taiwan-Japan Letterpress Exchange Exhibition with an in-depth Old Town Cultural Walk.
At “Chongnan 109 – Taiwan Museum Living Room,” experience the nostalgic scent of ink and paper, and relive the golden era of letterpress and publishing.
- Visit the Taiwan-Japan Letterpress Exchange Exhibition: Discover the intertwined histories and aesthetics of Taiwanese and Japanese printing culture.
- Walk Through Time: Follow expert guides from MuseLink Culture through Chongnan Book Street and the Railway Department Park, uncovering a century of Taiwan’s publishing and railway development.
